Report - Sessions 1&2

Winter Club Champs got off to a great start last Sunday with 70 swimmers taking part in the first 10 events, creating a total of 127 event entries. A few swimmers have laid down a challenge to the rest with clean sweeps in their age groups: Mia Poplawska took both golds in the 8&under girls while Jade Pithers took all three golds in the 9&10 girls, as did Benjamin Levart in the 9&10 boys. In the 11&12 boys, Daniel Barraclough won both his events, while Lauren Wye and Shaun Kellam did the same in the 13&14 age groups.
It was great to see so many swimmers taking part in 200m racing for the first time - around 40 swimmers have now got some PB times to put in their books.
Fourteen of our hardiest swimmers returned to the pool on Tuesday evening to swim the 1500m Freestyle (60 lengths). The pool management had kindly dropped the water temperature a couple of degrees for the event, to allow the swimmers the best chance, and this was rewarded with a new club record for Nia Kennedy in the 11&12 girls age group. Nia smashed the previous record by 51.5 seconds, setting a time of 20:03.95. Other notable performances came from Lauren Wye, who added to her Sunday wins with another gold, Stefan Majek who knocked 4 minutes off his time from last year and Caroline Whittaker who proved that the Masters can also improve their times year-on-year. Whatever their times, all fourteen swimmers deserve some applause for their tremendous efforts.
See you all again on Sunday 15th October for session 3 and the remaining 50m and 200m races.
