Diving Section
First and foremost our aim is for people to have FUN whilst learning to dive in a safe and disciplined environment under experienced supervision.
We have 3 fully qualified Diving Teachers with a wealth of experience, as well as one Diving Tutor. We also have one Poolside Helper who is currently looking for an appropriate Assistant Diving Teacher’s course to sign on to. Our diving coaches are a mix of County, SCASA and National Judges, additionally 2 are Recorders, and one a Referee. We are also able to call upon other past club members who are qualified Diving Teachers, Judges and Referees whenever the need arises – during holidays, ‘come and try’ sessions, competitions etc.
We have 3 levels of diver:
Newcomers – children who have little or no diving experience, usually finding us via diving courses run by Chiltern Pools, or through enquiries having seen training sessions underway. Ages range from 8 to 13.
Juniors – usually children who have come to us from diving courses and progressed from Newcomers. Occasionally we find exceptionally talented children who are fast tracked direct to the junior section. Age range is around 10 to 14
Seniors/Masters – in the main 15+ divers, in addition to one or two 12/13 year olds who have progressed through from the junior section. These divers usually leave at 18 to go to University. This is also the section for the ‘more mature’ diver aged 25+ either starting from scratch or resuming diving after a break.
There are three diving sessions each week:
Sunday mornings from 9 to 12
– split into the three separate levels of experience
Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8
– mainly juniors with the offer for seniors to come along if they wish
Thursday evenings from 8 to 9
– seniors and masters, plus 2or 3 talented juniors
Although there is no pressure, we do encourage everyone to compete – from Novice events through to National Championships, and for the older (over 25’s) divers, Regional, National and International Masters Championships.
